Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) is proud to embark on a groundbreaking initiative called Generasi DFP in supporting the music and arts landscape in Malaysia.
For 26 years, DFP has stood as a beacon of arts and culture in Kuala Lumpur, hosting illustrious artists and groups of variety of music genres and artistic expressions. Through Generasi DFP this year, DFP aims at providing a platform for singers, songwriters and aspiring musicians to come forward and showcase their undiscovered talents.
This initiative was launched in March and garnered a strong interest from across the country. A total of 100 audition videos were received from artists/bands ranging from 18 to 30 years old. Through a selection process by a panel of DFP jury, 15 artists/bands were shortlisted to present their debut concerts at DFP.
The third Generasi DFP concert is scheduled on Wednesday, 20 November 2024 at 8.30 pm and will feature three female solo singers Mardiana, Khalyn Mulyani and Jo Lixian, and two bands, Sounds Like Sunday and Meruked.
Sounds Like Sunday is a band which hails from Kuala Lumpur comprising seven young musicians. The band combines high-octane energy and soothing sounds with a Nu Jazz nuance. The group has released singles titled Happy Meal, Is It Worth It and Snacking since the last two years.
Jo Lixian has a formal music background including a degree from Berklee College of Music. She is the founder of an arts school called Music Nation as an initiative to assist the community in music education. To date, she has released a debut EP in 2014 and five singles.
Mardiana, aged 25 years old, is a songwriter and producer rooted in R&B and pop genres. She launched her album Don’t Cry For Me in 2022 which garnered attention from international publications such as Notion, Fame Magazine and Lock Magazine. She performs around Kuala Lumpur and has just released an EP titled Dance Alone and two singles, I Don’t Care and Make You Love Me this year.
18-year-old Khalyn Mulyani is an alumnus of Sekolah Seni Malaysia Kuala Lumpur and has participated in competitions such as The Chosen One and All Together Now produced by Astro. A committed artist to her craft, she has sung at events on a national level.
Meruked is a band from Kuching, Sarawak, consisting of six members who fuse the contemporary and traditional contemporary elements including the sape. The word ‘meruked’ means ‘everlasting’ in an ethnic dialect of Lun Bawang, epitomizing the spirit of preserving the local heritage.
The first and second Generasi DFP concerts took place in July and September featuring Fadzly, Syiqin Azln, Ruhil Ariana Wilson, Ee Vone, Ruebben Chelvan, Dekwa Cuwa, Amrita Soon and bands LOKO, Saiko Rama and Cherry On Top.
Generasi DFP is a testament to our commitment in fostering a vibrant music community and to be the stage for local talents to shine. Let’s support our young talents creating unforgettable moments on the DFP stage.
