Described as the ‘definition of virtuosity’ by The Observer, talented pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii makes his debut with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) on Saturday, 12 October 2024 at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
Blind from birth, Nobuyuki won the joint Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009 when he was just 21 and has earned an international reputation for the passion he brings to his ‘live’ performances. His collaborations with renowned orchestras such as Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, the Seattle and Baltimore Symphonies, and the BBC and Hong Kong Philharmonics demonstrated impressive musicianship and have garnered international acclaim. He has also held recitals at venues such as the Carnegie Hall, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and Paris’ Theatre des Champs-Elysees.
With the MPO, Nobuyuki will present Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto, ranks as one of the most popular concertos in the romantic vein. Being notorious for its technical difficulties, this work does not faze many young pianists to perform it including Nobuyuki.
Other works to be performed by the MPO in this all-Russian programme are Tchaikovsky’s beautiful Waltz from Sleeping Beauty and Prokofiev’s Symphony No.7, his seldom heard last symphony which boasts broadly lyrical melodies and charm.
Also making a debut on the DFP stage is Brazilian conductor Eduardo Strausser who has led orchestras across the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Enjoy a musical treat right at your doorstep here at DFP, where every beat tells a story!
