Showcasing its exceptional versatility and commitment to present music of all genres, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present a concert themed All That Jazz With WVC Jazz Ensemble & The Shang Sisters on Saturday, 26 April 2025 at 8.00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga will weave his magic leading the MPO in a programme of eclectic mix of jazz classics, cover versions and originals. Get ready to be beguiled with songs such as Waiting for That Day, Fading Old Town, Samsara, Sea Outside My Window, What Is This Feeling, Crossing the Ocean, Joget Malaysia, Hitam Manis, Nona Nona Zaman Sekarang and Dendang Perantau, all given jazz interpretations and infused with a modern, Asian twist.
The MPO will collaborate with WVC Jazz Ensemble, one of Southeast Asia’s leading jazz bands. Consisting of pianist/leader Tay Cher Siang, drummer Adriel Wong and bassist AJ Popshuvit, the band has released seven albums, won awards at the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards and has toured extensively in the region. It has explored transforming pop, Chinese, Malay and mainstream music into jazz, pushing musical boundaries with innovative collaborations with local and international artists.
The concert will also feature The Shang Sisters, Asia’s leading Chinese female jazz trio comprising Janet Lee, Winnie Ho and Mian Tan. The group is known for the ingenuous fusion of the East and West with a deep sense of Nanyang roots. It has garnered much recognition and has showcased its artistry to audiences in Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.
Joining this exciting line-up are saxophonists Eddy Lim and Farid Izwan, and also Junji Delfino, dubbed the First Lady of Jazz, and Izen Kong, an established stage and theatre singer.
Be part of a jazz extravaganza where every beat will resonate a different story! It will definitely be an evening that brings fans back to the glory days of jazz.
The MPO will continue to strive to provide the best performances and diverse programming accessible to everyone. You have been our inspiration, motivating us through all our hard work, hours of practice, commitment and challenges at every level. All our achievements are due to your love and support. Be the instruments that keep us alive. Donate to MPO now at mpo.com.my/donate.
