The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) continues to stretch its versatility and demonstrates its brilliant musicianship when it celebrates the music of renowned British progressive rock band Pink Floyd on Saturday, 12 April 2025 at 8.00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
Themed The Music Of Pink Floyd, this will be the second time that the MPO presents the music from the legendary band after a concert themed Symphonic Pink Floyd in 2017. This concert will continue to witness the MPO stepping out-of-the-box and merging rock and classical elements, giving the audience the music richness and a whole different feel whilst capturing the spirit of the band.
Prior to this, the MPO has paid a similar-themed tributes to rock groups U2 (2016), Queen (2015) and Led Zeppelin (2014), and local-flavoured rock concerts such as MPO Rocks (2013) and Rock Tri-O (2019).
Witness the bridging of the gulf between rock n’ roll and classical music as Berklee-trained conductor/arranger Brent Havens takes the podium. He has collaborated with the Royal Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra and the orchestras of Cincinnati, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Houston, Atlanta, Dallas and Buffalo. He has written music for television movies (including the score for Quo Vadis) and commercials. He is the arranger/conductor for all the symphonic rock programmes for Windborne Music. His last collaboration with the MPO was for The Music Of Whitney Houston concert in 2023 at the Plenary Hall, KL Convention Centre.
This concert will feature Randy Jackson, the lead singer of the rock band Zebra. Fans of Pink Floyd and classical crossover music will enjoy familiar elements of the music but laced with an orchestral enhancement in this concert. Among the timeless hits to be performed are Brain Damage, Us And Them, Another Brick in the Wall, Money, Learning to Fly and Comfortably Numb.
