The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) embarks on a cultural milestone when it presents the legendary KS Chithra in a special concert on 29 November 2025 at 8.00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC. The concert will be led by the MPO Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga.
Known as The Golden Voice of India, Chithra will take centrestage and dazzle the audience with orchestral interpretations from iconic films. Her soulful vocals will be complemented with the grandeur sounds of the MPO in its ultimate versatility, promising an unforgettable fusion of Indian melodies and symphonic brilliance.
Prior to this, the MPO has presented concerts of variety music genres; pop, jazz, traditional, movie soundtracks and anime. This concert is indeed a historical event where the MPO’s repertoire is expanded beyond its classical music forte.
Chithra has recorded over 25,000 songs in various languages in a career that spans five decades. Known for her collaboration with AR Rahman and Ilaiyaraaja, she became the first Indian woman to be honoured by British Parliament. In 2021, she was awarded India’s third highest civilian honours ‘Padma Bhushan’ for her invaluable contributions to the Indian music industry.
Together with the MPO, Chithra will be performing songs such as Kannalanae, Anjali Anjali, Malargale Malargale, Rasaali, Thanni Thotti, Kuluvalilae and Paadarieyn. Joining her on the DFP stage are vocalists Madhu Balakrishnan, Sathyaprakash and Anamika PS, adding rich vocal textures to this special evening.
All songs will be given fresh symphonic arrangements by Gerard Salonga, Ahmad Muriz Che Rose, Ilham Subri, Wong Jun Xian, Teuku Umar and Shahhakam Mokhtar.
