    Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS Presents a Debut Concert by Parade Hujan

    Staying true to its commitment to present a variety of genres for music lovers from all walks of life, Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) is proud to present a debut concert by a popular band from Indonesia, Parade Hujan on Saturday, 21 June 2025 at 8.00 pm.

    Parade Hujan is an alternative/indie band whose music weaves a beautiful tapestry of folk and jazz with traditional Indonesian influences such as keroncong. Originally known as Payung Teduh, the band was founded in 2007 comprising Is (vocals/guitar), Comi (contrabass), Cito (drums) and Ivan (trumpet/guitarlele). 

    In 2010, Payung Teduh released its debut indie album with Angin Pujaan Hujan as the first single which introduced the group’s unique brand of music. The group became increasingly popular in the Indonesian music industry especially among the youth through poetic music and lyrics such as Kucari Kamu, Berdua Saja, Menuju Senja and Untuk Perempuan Yang Sedang Dalam Pelukan.

    The band is also known for music from theatre presentations by Catur Ari Wibowo such as Resah and Cerita Tentang Gunung Dan Laut, as well as works by Amalia Puri such as Tidurlah dan Malam.

    In 2013, Payung Teduh produced its second studio album titled Dunia Batas under the Ivy League Music label. In 2015, the band recorded a song titled Masa Kecilku and in 2016, released an album titled Live And Loud. In 2017, Payung Teduh returned with an album titled Ruang Tunggu and a single titled Akad which became an internet hit with many artists covering this song.

    For its debut concert at DFP, Parade Hujan will enthrall its fans with hit songs such as, among others, Angin Pujaan Hujan, Selalu Muda, Di Atas Meja, Berdua Saja, Akad, Muram, Rahasia, Cerita Tentang Gunung Dan Laut, Ku Cari Kamu and Tidurlah.

    Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra Presents Magnificent Classical Masterpieces by Beethoven and Mozart at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS

    The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) continues to tell stories through its exceptional musical splendour in an upcoming concert on Saturday, 31 May 2025 at 8.00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.

    The concert will commence with Mozart’s Symphony No.34 which opened the doors to musical romanticism. A work full of fanfares, pomp and festive spirit, it was written in 1780.

    Next, the MPO horn player Grzegorz Curyla will take centrestage to serenade with Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4, a work that breezes along with infectious gaiety, good humour, scintillating virtuosity and melting beauty. It was written in 1786 specifically for Joseph Leutgeb, Mozart’s lifelong musician friend. 

    Curyla, one of the most prominent Polish horn players of his generation, has performed with renowned orchestras such as the BBC, Berlin and Royal Philharmonics, the London Sinfonietta, the Sydney and Melbourne Symphonies, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He joined the MPO in 2015 as Section Principal Horn.

    The MPO will close the concert with a Beethoven masterpiece entitled Symphony No.2 which contains humour with joyful and sweet melodies. Many listeners were invariably left surprised, thrilled and amazed at what truly unusual work it is. 

    Making his debut on the DFP stage to lead the MPO is Andrea Marcon, an Italy-born conductor/organist/harpsichordist and specialist for early music. He has collaborated with major orchestras of Berlin, Monte Carlo, Munich and Salzburg, and has heralded performances of many famous operatic works. As a prolific recording artist, he was awarded the Diapason D’Or and ECHO Klassik Award, and has earned two Grammy Award nominations.

    Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra Presents a Tribute Concert Themed ‘Bizet 150th: A Symphony of Celebration at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS

    The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present a tribute concert themed Bizet 150th: A Symphony of Celebration to celebrate the body of works by famed French composer Georges Bizet who died 150 years ago.

     

    The concert is scheduled on Saturday, 17 May 2025 at 8.00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC. Under the leadership of Rossen Gergov, the MPO will bring the audience to a dazzling splendour through excerpts from Bizet’s most famous opera music, Carmen. By 1938, the opera was performed about 2000 times in Paris alone since the premiere in 1875. Packed with boiling passions, lust and fierce characters, Carmen has been produced in languages such as Serbian, Bulgarian, Russian, Chinese and Japanese in addition to all common European languages.

     

    In this concert, the MPO will also present Suite No.2 from L’ Arlésienne, commissioned to Bizet and first performed in 1872 in Paris. Both aforementioned Bizet’s works are set against a background of local colour: Carmen in Spain and L’Arlésienne in France, and both titles belongs to a femme fatale who leads her lover to an unhappy end.

     

    The MPO will first open the concert with two works by Manuel de Falla, an outstanding Spanish composer of the 20th century. The exciting works are ballet scores El amor brujo (Ritual Fire Dance) and Suite No.1 from The Three Cornered Hat.

     

    Collaborating with the MPO in this special concert are Malaysian soprano Sandy Cheng and bass baritone Shawn Liew, Australian mezzo soprano Sian Sharp and Mexico-born tenor Diego Torre, all will showcase their exceptional artistries in a night of pure musical extravaganza!
